KEMATIAN SEBUAH BANGSA Karya Kahlil Gibran Bangsaku berlalu, tapi aku tetap ada, mereka meratap dalam kesendirianku. Kematian adalah sahabatku, dan dalam kematian dalam hidupku bukanlah apa-apa, kecuali malapetaka besar. Bukit-bukit kecil negeriku terendam air mata dan darah, karena bangsa dan kekasihku berlalu, dan aku di sini, hidup seperti yang aku lakukan ketika bangsa dan kekasihku menikmati hidup dan karunia kehidupan, ketika perbukitan negeriku diberkahi dan diliputi cahaya surya. Bangsaku mati karena kelaparan, dan dia tak binasa karena penderitaan kelaparan dibunuh dengan pedang dan aku dinegeri yang jauh, mengembara ditengah-tengah bangsa yang begembira, dan tidur di atas ranjang-ranjang lembut, dan tersenyum pada hari-hari.
